Wanting to improve your relationship? Regular date nights are important for connecting and keeping the spark alive. Use these tips to plan great date nights! I was gifted the some of the items in this post by Erin Condren, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
It’s so easy in a marriage to just go through the motions and get stuck in a rut. One easy thing you can do to keep the spark alive and improve your relationship is to have scheduled date nights.
What you do for the dates isn’t important the key is making it a regular habit. If at all possible at least once a week. You need that time to be intentional about connecting.
You don’t even have to leave the house every time, it just has to a set time that you put away distractions and focus on each other.
My husband and I like to go to a local coffee shop on most Saturdays. We also spend time together most Tuesday nights just talking without distractions. And most weekends we do something fun together. And throughout the year we take weekend trips out of town.
All of these things help us reconnect and get out of the same old routine. We actually both work from home so we see each other a lot. We even chat during the day for a few minutes at a time when we take breaks or are getting our lunches. We also eat dinner together every night but we need times where we aren’t just going through the motions of everyday life and we actually put time into our relationship.
Now you just need to plan the date nights and actually stick to the habit. That is usually the hardest part of all of it.
How to Plan Great Date Nights
Have a Planning Date
Why not get a date night out of planning? Sit down together and talk about what kind of dates you like, how often you can have them, and figure out a schedule.
A really fun way to do this is with the Share the Love Petite Planner from Erin Condren. This journal is designed to be filled out by one person as a gift to your partner or another loved one but another way to use it is as a date planner.
In the first part of the journal use the fun love prompts to learn and grow as a couple. You can each write down your answer to the prompts and then discuss them. You don’t need to do all 50 at once, instead, pick a couple each date night. It can even spark some great conversations.
In the back of the journal, there are blank pages where you can put your date night ideas. Try and fill out as many ideas as you can. If you need ideas, check out these-
Organize Your Date Night Ideas
You can use the Share the Love journal to keep your date night ideas of I love the idea of using an Erin Condren notebook with one of their great new love planner covers and trying to fill as much of it as you can.
I recommend having different categories. Have some that are free or very cheap, some at-home options, maybe some double dates, and whatever else you like. Having the categories will make it easy to find ideas when you need them.
You could even use some page flags to mark off each category so it’s simple to find what you are looking for when you need a new idea.
Since you would have a lot of space to write you could leave some room with each idea to write if you both liked the date, changes you would make, and if you want to do it again. It would also be a great way to look back and see what dates you’ve gone on and reminisced together.
Put the Dates on the Calendar
Once you have a plan you need to actually follow through so put your date nights on the calendar. We keep our family calendar on our phones so it’s easy for us to both have access.
You could all use the Erin Condren Wall Organization Center. I keep mine in my office so that wouldn’t be very useful for us but if you have yours in the kitchen or another shared space it could be a great option.
I also like to put the date nights in my personal planner which is the Erin Condren Petite Planner Folio System. I love to use fun heart stickers and things to decorate those days so they stand out and get me excited every time I look at my planner.
Fun Date Night Planning Supplies
You could do this with a simple notebook you have laying around or even on your phone but if you want to be a bit more organized and may try some of the ideas I suggested you can get some great supplies from Erin Condren to use for your date night planning.
