Many of us don’t drink enough water and it’s affecting our health negatively. These tips can help you drink more water and also help others get clean drinking water. This is a cause Grosche believes in and they have been nice enough to sponsor this post to help get the word out.

I’m terrible about drinking enough water. I don’t drink a lot of soda or anything I really just don’t drink enough of anything. It’s a terrible habit and I know it’s impacting my health.
For one thing, my skin is very dry and I know being dehydrated all of the time is not helping that. And that’s just one sign I can see.
This year I’m really trying to do better about this and it has me thinking about ways to encourage myself to drink more water. Often these kinds of posts come from people that want to drink more but are already drinking a fair amount.
I’m not that person. I often find myself drinking no water all day. If these tips can help me they can truly help anyone.
10 Tips to Help You Drink More Water

Start Small
If you haven’t been drinking enough don’t think you need to start drinking the full amount right away. Look at what you are doing now and maybe double it. After about a week increase again.
This helps your body get used to, not quite as many more trips to the bathroom, and helps you build the habit.
Use Infused Water
If you tend to reach for a soda or other flavored drinks using infused water can help you switch to more water. There are a lot of great infused water recipes out there.
The easiest way to make it is with an infuser water bottle or to make more at once an infuser pitcher. I have an insulated infuser water bottle from Grosche that I love to use.
It’s a beautiful bottle and very easy to use. You can also use it for tea, I love tea so this is a huge plus. I can just add fruit or whatever I want to infuse my water with and I’m good to go. Unsweetened tea is also a good way to drink more water.

Track Your Intake
If you don’t naturally drink enough water keeping track can be helpful, especially while building the habit. Since it seems many of us are terrible at drinking enough water there are many options out there to help you track, these are just a few.
- A habit tracker- I use this free printable habit tracker to track all kinds of things. It makes it easy to see what areas you are doing a good job in and which need more work.
- Planner stickers- If you use a paper planner there are great water tracking stickers you can use to keep track of your water intake each day. I’ve also seen people put these stickers on their water bottle to keep track.
- Apps- There are so many apps out there to help you track water intake. Daily Water is one on the iPhone that has a lot of great features and reminds you to drink throughout the day.
These are just a few ways you can track your water. The key is finding a system that works for you.
Drink Water Before Snacking
I have found often in the afternoon I crave a sweet snack. If I make myself drink a large glass of water before eating anything I often find I’m not actually hungry.
This has helped me cut down on snacking and increase my water intake.
Start Your Day with Water
Drinking 8 ounces of water in the morning before you consume anything else puts you on the right track. It’s also good for digestion and energy.
A lot of people like to drink lemon water in the morning so that’s another time that an infuser bottle can come in handy.

Use a Straw
Drinking out of a straw is a weird one that helps me. I don’t know why but it works for a lot of people. I seem to drink water a lot more and faster if I use a straw.
I recommend choosing a reusable straw option. I love glass straws but stainless steel is also a great option. I got my glass straws long before it was the trendy thing and it was hard to find them. Thankfully now they are everywhere, try a few and see what you like best.
Take a Water Bottle with You
When you leave the house be sure to grab a water bottle to take with you. This will encourage you to drink while you are away from the house.
An insulated water bottle is handy to make sure your water stays cool, especially during the summer months. Having cool water with you when it’s hot is a really good way to encourage yourself to drink more!
You could also take some unsweetened hot tea with you on a cold day if you don’t like drinking cold drinks as much during the cold months.

Get Competitive
If competition helps you then see if a friend that is trying to drink more water wants to make it a contest. You could even have a prize like, the loser has to buy lunch for the winner.
Drink a Glass of Water Before You Eat
Like with the tip to drink water instead of grabbing a snack, drinking water before you eat can help you eat less but it also is a good reminder. If you make it a habit to drink a glass of water before each meal then at meal time you remember to drink more water.
Be Grateful for Clean Water
1 in 8 people doesn’t have access to safe drinking water. Thinking about this makes me so grateful for the clean water that comes from my tap. It reminds me that I should drink the water my body requires because so many don’t have this luxury.
Yes, this does somewhat guilt me into drinking water but sometimes guilt is what works. I do try to come at it as a time to be grateful though. Drink your glass of water and remember how blessed you are, even if things seem crazy at the moment.
The Safe Water Project
Grosche sells beautiful infuser water bottles (like the one pictured in this post) and other products like coffee and tea to help provide clean drinking water for people around the world.
