One of my most popular posts is Ditch the Yoga Pants, Embrace the House Dress. Women seem to love the idea of ditching the homemaker uniform of yoga pants and wearing something comfortable but more put together.

People often find they feel better about themselves and are even more productive when they get dressed for the day.

In that original post, I talk about wearing house dresses, the popular uniform of vintage homemakers. This is great for warmer weather but many have asked about what to do during the winter. Here are some of my top tips.

How to Ditch the Yoga Pants this Winter

Buy Warmer House Dresses

I still suggest house dresses for daily wear during the winter. Look for versions with heavier fabric and long sleeves. You can even find some cute sweater dresses that can work.

The same stores I suggest in Ditch the Yoga Pants, Embrace the House Dress are great places to shop for these warmer options.

Learn to Layer

With layering, you can keep the house dresses that are so comfortable and great in the warmer months and continue to wear them.

Throw a pair of tights on under and a cardigan on top and you are often good to go. Some dresses even look cute with leggings. It’s a great time to pull out some of your shorter dresses and pair those with leggings.

Layering is such a great way to stay warm and continue to use your warmer weather wardrobe so it can save a lot of money.

Find a Good Pair of Pants

Some days are cool enough pants are really the best option. That doesn’t mean you need to pull out sweatpants or yoga pants.

Find some cute leggings to layer with dresses like talked about above. I know it isn’t fun but also be on the hunt for some jeans that are comfortable. It can be tough but it’s worth it once you find some.

Personally, I find jeans with a bit of stretch to be the most comfortable. I also like higher waisted jeans for my body time. Once you find a pair you love, get a few if you can. Coupons.com has coupon codes that can help make this process more affordable.

Getting dressed for the day is a great way to boost your self-esteem and even during the winter it’s possible to still be comfortable while looking nice.

I only wear leggings if my shirt will cover my tail. But I do love them. I also wear my yoga pants with a long tail shirt. Or a tunic type top (short dress).

If you feel put together and comfortable that’s totally fine. 🙂

I am old enough to remember when a woman wouldn’t get out of bed without putting on her stockings (hosiery). I still put on stockings when I leave the house if ANY of my legs will be seen. Oh, for those times again when women weren’t showing all.

I love stockings but it’s also nice to live in a time where I can go without. I can’t imagine wearing stockings when it’s 100+ in the summer in Oklahoma.
