A smelly fridge is no one’s friend but it happens to the best of us. The best way to prevent this is to keep your fridge clean and never forget about food, but let’s be real, we will forget.

Cleaning out the fridge is likely my least favorite chore. I always end up grossed out and feeling guilty about something we forgot to eat. Something always gets pushed to the back and forgotten, no matter how hard I try to avoid it.

Simple baking soda works well for most odors but this deodorizer works even better and leaves a nice fresh citrus smell. And it’s very simple to make.

If you don’t have a jar with holes in the lid you can use a mason jar and remove the disk in the lid and use cheesecloth or breathable fabric instead. You can even remove the lid and add the fabric and use a rubber band to attach it.

That’s it. It’s also cuter than a plain box of baking soda in your fridge. You can try other citrus essential oils as well. I often do orange oil and this time I did grapefruit. Lime is also smells great.

If you don’t have essential oils yet be sure to check out Plant Therapy. I love their essential oils and they are very affordable.

When you refill your jar be sure not to waste the baking soda. Put it in your drain and follow with a bit of vinegar to help flush out your drain and leave it smelling fresh.

You can set these around your home as well to help with odors. They are great to stick in your closet next to your shoes. The ideas are endless.

I’m sad to say that I need this! ? it’s cute and inconspicuous enough that no one would notice it just doing its job!

Not like a huge box of baking soda just out in the open!

Much cuter than a box of baking soda. 🙂 We all need it from time to time, no worries.

I had no idea that baking soda could help with disposals too! I always throw lime peels down there in the summer, but that’s a great idea for the winter months when I don’t have as many fruits on hand!

Fantastic “recipe”, dear gal, thank you for sharing! I think this could do well as an odour neutralizer in a powder room, too, and love that the ingredients (assuming the essential oil one used was) are safe to be around pets, if one opted to use it outside of the fridge.

This is perfect. Love the idea and it’s duel purpose. The fridge can be a frightening place … especially if we forget about a lost tomato ::shutter:: Thanks for sharing!! (From SHINE)

This sounds great!!! Im going to do it. Just one question: how many jars (of the baking soda mixture) do you put in your fridge?
