Make your room smell like a candy cane forest for the holidays with a DIY candy cane room spray. It also makes a great Christmas gift.
I have to avoid many holiday scents because they often contain pine or cedar and I’m allergic to both. Thankfully I like the sweet holiday scents. One of my favorites is peppermint.
I use peppermint essential oil all year for headaches or sinus issues but I use it even more during the holidays. While I like just pure peppermint essential oil it can be a bit intense.
Once I got a spray that contained peppermint and wintergreen and I was hooked. I decided this year to create my own. It’s a great scent for the holidays and the room spray is so easy to make.
Keep Your Home Smelling Fresh for the Holidays
We tend to have more guests during the holiday season and the last thing you want is for your home to smell bad. Keeping your house clean is the first step for keeping odors away. However, some odors persist even when you have a clean house.
Room sprays usually just cover up odors and can wear off and give us headaches. This candy cane room spray is made with vodka which actually can help naturally deodorize and disinfect. It also dries quickly making it safe for some fabric, be sure to test a spot first.
Unlike many of the scented items, you find during the holidays, candy cane room spray uses all-natural ingredients. Many scented items contain phthalates, making your own helps you avoid these.
I also like making my own because you can customize it. If you want it stronger add more essential oils, you can also change the ratio of the essential oils to fit your tastes.
How to Make Candy Cane Room Spray

To make your candy cane room spray you will need a 4-ounce spray bottle, it’s best if it’s blue or amber.
Essential oils are sensitive to light and using a dark glass bottle keeps them from deteriorating faster. You will also need vodka or Everclear, peppermint essential oil, and wintergreen essential oil.
Materials
- 4 ounce glass bottle
- 4 ounces of Vodka or Everclear
- Peppermint Essential Oil
- Wintergreen Essential Oil
Instructions
- Fill your 4-ounce spray bottle with vodka.
- Add 20 drops of peppermint essential oil.
- Add 10 drops of wintergreen essential oil.
- Shake well, spray and see if the spray seems strong enough. You can add more oils if you’d like.
Notes
Remember to shake before each use and store in a dark, cool place.
Give Candy Cane Room Spray as a Gift
This room spray also makes a great gift. You can give it alone or create a nice gift basket with it. Some cute Christmas towels, an essential oil candy, or a Christmas throw blanket, would all go nicely with the room spray.
Adding a cute tag helps make it even more festive. I’ve seen some adorable tags at Target at Bullseye’s Playground and at Michaels. Add some cute ribbon and you are good to go.
I created my own tag using my Silhouette Cameo, Silhouette Sketch Pens, baker’s twine, and a Christmas sticker. I simply used a cut file that I adapted and added text to use with the Sketch Pens. I’ve had a lot of fun creating things with my Silhouette lately.
A cute label is another way to make sure the recipient knows what is in the bottle and dresses up the gift. No matter what you choose it’s sure to be a fun gift.
