Waffles have been a favorite of mine my whole life. If I’m eating somewhere with a waffle on the menu there is a very good chance I’m going to order it.

My husband claims waffles and pancakes are the same things but he is so wrong. I use different recipes for my pancakes than my waffles and texture is such a huge part of food and waffles have a totally different texture. Plus they hold maple syrup better.

I wasn’t able to make waffles for a long time after getting married because I didn’t want to use Teflon and most waffle makers are Teflon coated. The one my family used wasn’t but it was vintage.

Teflon is linked to a lot of health concerns because toxic fumes can be released at high temperatures. The fumes can kill pet birds and cause people to develop flu-like symptoms. It’s something I prefer to avoid.

A few years ago I finally found a Teflon-free waffle iron. It uses a ceramic coating to make it non-stick instead of Teflon. It’s very easy to clean and works great. It’s also very affordable. It’s under $30 on Amazon. I highly recommend checking it out and then using it to make some of these amazing waffle recipes.
