Interested in vintage recipes? Check out these interesting recipes and delicious modern updates that you will want to try right away.

Today I wanted to do a bit of a throwback to my favorite former blogger and her former YouTube show Making It Modern. She took sometimes crazy vintage recipes and turned them into delicious modern dishes.
I loved watching these videos and I’m sad she moved on from them. I was thinking about the videos the other day and thought it would be nice to show a new audience how fun they were.
The videos are still available on YouTube so you can still watch and enjoy. The recipes are also so much fun so I’m sure you will want to try a few, maybe even the vintage versions.
Vintage Recipes Made Modern
This classic is still popular today and now you can have a delicious cocktail version. The original recipe is a strange appetizer using American cheese, sausages, and pineapple. The modern version is beautiful and great for any party. You know she has to have a jello salad. It's pretty but not so great for the modern tastes. The updated version is perfect though. A vintage meatloaf with a hidden surprise gets turned into an interesting Thai inspired dish. Chicken, cherry pie filling and mashed potatoes? Sounds interesting. The pie is a classic but the new verson is great as well and even Paleo friendly. Oh no, another jello salad! Check out how this one gets an update. I've seen this crazy recipe around the internet a lot. You will be amazed at how she updated this one. You knew canned meat would show up at some point. Usually I'm on board for pizza related dishes but this one I'm not so sure about. The update is great though. Another Jello salad, just what the world needs. Roasted veggies and quinoa sounds much better. Bethany said this was the most vile vintage recipe she had eaten. Her updated dish is a big improvement. This vintage recipe doesn't sound half bad. And the updated version sounds amazing. You knew some where hot dog dish was coming. Wait until you see how she updates it. Another molded dish, ugh! But this updated soup sounds amazing. I'm always up for a good grilled cheese and both of these sound good. Vintage desserts seem to have aged better than savory dishes. Both of these ways of making this dessert are amazing. Stuffed bologna? No thanks! This procuitto appetizer however I can get on board with. Don't worry there are no frog eyes in it. It doesn't sound half bad and the modern version sounds great. These sound like delicious comfort foods! Beef in fudge? I think I will stick with the modern recipe. I'm going to have to try this strawberry cake. It seems like a great summer treat. The cocktail version looks good as well. Don't let the the name fool you, it's another gross Jello recipe. The updated version looks great. This vintage dessert looks amazing but if you are vegan there is a modern version for you. This one actually sounds interesting. The updated one sounds even better. More hot dogs and these are stuffed into pickles?! The updated version is a much needed improvement. A potato salad cake? What were they thinking in the mid-century? Both of these versions sound wonderful. It was a delicious note for Making It Modern to end on.
You can also watch many of the episodes on Amazon Prime Video. Closed caption is available for those that need it.

That channel and shows were fun.
Since she didn’t become the next Martha Stewart, she stopped.
Now she’s the “glamorous housewife” on Facebook, and just goes off on politics.
The glamorous is long gone. Too bad.

Bethany’s life changed and she needed to do other things. I wish she had two pages instead but it is what it is. She is still the same sweet person, just things have changed for her and like many bloggers she had to let go of her blog. I do miss her blog a lot.

I used to make a very similar strawberry cake every year for David’s birthday. His birthday is in April, which is the height of the strawberry season in NOLA. He was not a big fan of chocolate when he was younger, ( much to the horror of his chocoholic father) but he loved strawberries. Mine was a white cake, but with the gelatin topping, but it had a “7 minute frosting” top. Almost like a marshmallow crepe, but lighter. Now I need to go look for that recipe….
