The best cookie recipes are the ones that have been passed down for generations. These are the best of the best vintage cookie recipes that you need to try.

These days there is always some new trendy recipe. I make them from time to time and they always seem to be a bit hit or miss.

That’s why I love vintage recipes. They have been made for generations so you know they are good recipes. Everyone knows the recipes passed down from grandparents are almost always the best.

My grandma taught me to bake and even gave me her cookbook several years ago. Those are the recipes I always go back to after trying the latest trend.

And one of my favorite things to bake is cookies. It’s the first thing I learned to bake and always a crowd pleaser!

The Best Vintage Cookie Recipes

The first cookies I remember baking were peanut butter cookies with my grandma using a vintage recipe from the Better Homes & Garden cookbook she got when she got married.

In my opinion, those are still the best cookie, vintage or not. There is some irony in the fact that I’m now allergic to peanuts but I have found that sunflower seed butter works really well as a substitute for peanut butter.

While I doubt any cookie recipe will ever top my grandma’s peanut butter cookie recipe, I’m willing to try many vintage cookie recipes just to be sure.

I’ve gathered some great vintage cookie recipes that can challenge your favorite cookie recipe as well.

Must-Have Baking Supplies

Before we get to baking we need some supplies. My KitchenAid stand mixer has to be number one on my list of must-have baking supplies. Here are some other things I like to have on hand.

Now you just have to pick which of these vintage cookie recipes you want to try first.

Old-Fashioned Date Bar Recipe

Dating back more than half a century ago, this Date Bar recipe was a Christmastime treat on the Ohio farm where my mother grew up. They’re a special, old-fashioned cookie for the holidays – but honestly, we love them so much that we make them all year-round. They’re super-easy and freezable, too, so you can always keep a stash on hand!
