Cleaning the toilet is not my idea of fun, but these toilet cleaner tabs make it pretty easy. They also leave your toilet smelling fresh and clean.
You’ve likely noticed by now that I love to use essential oils in my home. They are a natural way to scent cleaning products and your home in general.
Unlike the artificial fragrances found in many cleaning supplies, essential oils don’t contain phthalates. And they still smell amazing.
One thing I love about essential oils is your ability to create your own scents by mixing different oils. I have so much fun doing this both in cleaning supplies, personal care products, and in my diffusers. My current favorite blend is cinnamon, clove, and orange. I think it’s the perfect fall scent.
I really enjoy Nature’s Truth® essential oils. They have a great range of essential oils and other aromatherapy products that are very versatile and can be used in unique ways. Each oil comes from 100% all-natural plant sources such as flowers, leaves, and roots
One of the great things about Nature’s Truth essential oils is they are very easy to find. You can find them at stores like Target, Target.com, Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid, and more.
I got the ones I used for this project at Walgreens in the vitamin aisle. They were very easy to find and they had a great selection. I was tempted to buy many other things but I controlled myself, for now.
I’m always looking for new ways to use essential oils in my home and ways to make cleaning easier, this DIY project combines both.
These toilet cleaner tabs take hardly any time to make and make cleaning toilets a quicker job.
When making these toilet cleaner tabs I thought about what things worked well to clean toilets and how I could make them into easy tabs. I decided that baking soda was a must for odor control, castile soap would work well for the overall cleaning, citric acid makes them fizzy and helps with hard water build up, and of course, essential oils provide a lovely scent.
To make these I used a silicone mold, but it’s also possible to make them by simply scooping spoonfuls of the mixture onto wax paper and letting them dry. The molds are fun though and will help you feel a bit more like Martha Stewart.
How to Make Toilet Cleaner Tabs
- 1 1/2 cups baking soda
- 1/2 cup citric acid
- 2 tablespoons castile soap
- 30 drops of Nature’s Truth tea tree essential oil
- 30 drops of Nature’s Truth lavender essential oil
- 30 drops of Nature’s Truth lemon essential oil
Mix the baking soda and citric acid. Add in the essential oils and slowly mix in the castile soap.
The mixture should feel a bit like wet sand and when you pack it should keep its shape. If it doesn’t very slowly spray a bit of water into the mix until it does hold its shape.
Press the mixture firmly into your mold.
Let dry for at least 24 hours. Carefully pop the tabs out of the molds, if they break, let them dry a bit longer and try again.
Store the tabs in an airtight container. To use, place one in your toilet bowl. Once it finishes fizzing, scrub the bowl.
Right now is a great time to try this project out. Nature’s Truth also offers a $1.00 off coupon to help you get started! Go stock up on your favorite oils and try these toilet cleaning tabs.
