As you may have noticed I took a little break around the holidays. My husband and I went on a little vacation to Branson, Missouri before the holidays and after that we spent the holidays with our families. I hope everyone had a great holiday and a new year so far.
One of my goals this year is to get more organized and I’m going to be sharing a lot of this with you guys. My first project was under the kitchen sink. This area was terrible. I really just avoided even looking under there. I’m quite embarrassed to show the before photo but here it is.
I had been storing recycling that needed to go to places other than the recycling drop-off or curbside recycling under there and it took over. Plus everything else under there just wasn’t organized at all. So here is how I got it under control.
First I took everything out and put it in piles. My piles were: donate, doesn’t belong, trash/recycling, and stays. After it was empty I cleaned the cabinet. I honestly had bought the items to organize it before hand, which is not what I would normally recommend. It’s better to have it cleared out and know what you need before hand but thankfully my plan did work. Here is the much improved after photo.
I still need to organize under my master bathroom sink and I’m sure some of the cleaning things in there will end up in the kitchen but there is a lot of space left so that’s fine. Here are the items I used to organize the area, they all came from the Container Store.
I also used somethings from my recycling. I used an empty dish detergent container to keep old toothbrushes for cleaning in, used some old baby wipe containers to store my essential oils and one to store extra cleaning types of things I rarely use like steel wool. Looking through your recycling for containers that help you organize is a great, cheap way to organize.
The space is so much better now and so far it’s worked very well and is staying organized. And it’s amazing, once you get the first project done it really helps motivate you to keep going. I’m kind of excited to be getting the house and my life organized.
I’d love to hear your organizing tips and tricks or your challenges. If there is an area of my house you want me to show let me know. The next project I will be sharing is an updated look at my home management binder/planner. Be sure to keep checking back for more organizing posts and other posts about living a green life.
