This soda shop classic chocolate coke is easy to make at home with no special equipment or ingredients needed. Just a couple of simple ingredients and you have a delicious retro treat.

This is not an endorsement of Coca-Cola and was made before I started avoiding the brand. You can use any other cola brand. I generally just use a store brand which is cheap and still delicious!
Old-fashioned soda fountains are an obsession for me. They used to be a fun meeting spot but have largely faded away.
Soda fountains started in the mid-1800s as pharmacies and apothecaries started offering drinks that generally were believed to have health benefits. Overtime these places became the fun soda shops we think of now.

A drink that was popular at soda fountains was a chocolate Coke. Coke was a popular soda and making it with chocolate syrup created a new treat.
Old-Fashioned Chocolate Coke at Home

Since it’s now very hard to find an old-fashioned soda fountain the next best thing is creating one at home. I love to make ice cream floats at home but another soda fountain favorite I love to make is a chocolate Coke.
This may sound strange to you if you’ve never had one but many people like vanilla or cherry Coke so why not chocolate? It really does go so well together and is a fun treat.
They are really simple to make as well. You only need a few simple ingredients:
- Cola
- Chocolate Syrup
- Optional: Whipped Cream and a Cherry
I like to make mine in an old-fashioned soda fountain style glass because it makes you feel like you are at an actual soda fountain. I also make my own homemade chocolate syrup. It’s really easy and delicious.
Now that you have all the details on what you need it’s time to make this delicious drink!
