Want to know if you should try NY&C Closet or how to cancel NY&C Closet? Read this very honest review and experience of a long time subscriber that is no longer subscribed.

This review was originally posted in 2019 when I first started using NY&C Closet. I used the service a lot and really enjoyed it. I even kept some of the clothing items which I still have.

My account has been on hold since 2020 but I have remained in a NY&C Closet Facebook group and recently learned they have facing the same issues as customers that are using Le Tote clothing rental. Many customers of both NY&C Closet and Le Tote are not able to cancel their accounts. I’m dealing with this personally with Le Tote and you can read about the Le Tote canceling problems on the blog.

Much of this information will be a repeat of what I shared on the Le Tote post but since there are different customers I want to be sure to share here as well.

HONEST NY&C CLOSET REVIEW

First let me say, this is all my personal opinion and experience with NY&C Closet. Also nothing in this post is legal advice. If you are struggling to cancel NY&C Closet I recommend speaking with your bank and possibly a lawyer.

NY&C Closet is (maybe was?) a subscription box where you’d get clothes you picked out that you rented. You’d keep them as long as you wanted but would send them back when you wanted more. You did have the option to also buy the clothes at a discount.

Clothing rental is a really fun way to supplement your wardrobe and still something I enjoy from time to time. But things at NY&C Closet have been changing ever since they were bought by Saadia Group, the same parent company that owns Le Tote. This is a timeline of events that I have been able to put together.

It’s important to note that NY&C Closet is part of New York & Company.

  • July 2020: New York & Company filled for bankruptcy and announces it is closing all physical stores.
  • August 2020: Saadia Group purchases New York & Company for $40 million.
  • May 2023: Gabrielle Union wins preliminary injunction of trademark use against New York & Company.
  • June 2023: Class action lawsuit again New York & Company is filled alleging that they continued to send texts after customers opt out.
  • December 2023: New York & Company is sued alleged fake and inflated prices.

Around September 2023 reports of people not getting their totes and not being able to cancel start to flood into the New York and Company Closet (unaffiliated) Facebook group. There are also a lot of negative reviews on the Better Business Bureau website.

Unlike with Le Tote the brand does seem to still be posting on social media but many of the comments are very negative.

The Saadia Group, that owns both New York and Company Closet and Le Tote, website also seems to be gone however there is no news of them going out of business.

MY PERSONAL STORY WITH NY&C CLOSET

I put my account on hold in 2020. Unlike with Le Tote this has not been changed so while I still have an account it’s not subscribed to anything and I’m not being charged.

I have researched this concern though and found that the email they direct you to is the Le Tote email which I have contacted with no reply. Other customers have also stated the phones are disconnected.

So that leads us to, how do you cancel Le Tote if they don’t reply to any forms of contact?

HOW TO CANCEL NY&C CLOSET

Since I have not had to try to cancel I can’t talk from personal experience but I have talked to others that are dealing with this issue currently, this is what I have found.

The only way people have found to cancel NY&C Closet so far is to have their bank issue a new credit card and turn off the service that allows subscriptions to bill your new credit card.

This is a huge headache and if you don’t do it in time you will have charges you will need to dispute with your credit card. Be sure to keep screenshots and emails from trying to cancel in case your bank wants them.

If you are able to cancel in a different way please leave a comment letting us know. You can also leave your experience in the comments.

NY&C CLOSET CLOTHING RENTAL ALTERNATIVES

I’m not currently using clothing rental but from talking to others and from my past experience Armoire, Rent the Runway, and Gwynnie Bee all seem to still be good options. I hope to try some out again this year and give updated reviews for those that want to try a different service.

You can also get tips and advice from others that are renting clothing in the free Clothing Rental Services Review Facebook group.

Be sure to continue to check this post or the Clothing Rental Services Review Facebook group for updates on this ongoing issue.
