Several years ago I started making the switch to clean makeup. The options were limited at that time but thankfully there are more and more options now. Now you can find clean makeup brands at Ulta, Sephora, and just about anywhere you buy makeup.
I’m a makeup junkie so don’t think you’ll have to give up all the fun makeup and just do very natural looks with clean makeup. You can still have a smokey eye, red lips, and contour like a Kardashian if you want. You just will be missing all the nasty ingredients that can be found in conventional makeup
Why You Should Use Clean Makeup
Surely makeup has to be tested for safety, right? Well not really. The Food and Drug Administration has no authority to require companies to test cosmetics for safety. The FDA only does pre-market reviews of certain cosmetic color additives and active ingredients that are classified as over-the-counter drugs.
This means we have to do our own research. You may remember several years ago high levels of lead were found in lipsticks. Thankfully most companies got a lot of pushback on that and are starting to fix the issue but there are many other bad ingredients hiding in your makeup, several of which are endocrine disruptors.
Juice Beauty Makeup Review
I recommend slowly switching your makeup as you use things up. It can get pricey if you try to do it all at once but if you do it gradually it won’t break your budget. This review will help you decide if Juice Beauty is a good brand to switch to.
One of my favorite brands of makeup is Juice Beauty. I’ve used their skincare line for years and over the last several years they’ve really expanded their makeup line and it’s great.
Their Phyto-Pigment line was developed using certified organic ingredients under Gwyneth Paltrow’s creative leadership. It’s really high quality and great for your skin, which is great if you are like me and often skip taking your makeup off.
I’ve tried a lot of the makeup line and want to share what I think of each of the products.
I usually wear a powdered foundation from Everyday Minerals but when I want to wear a liquid foundation I really enjoy this one. I'd call it medium coverage that looks very natural. I love this CC cream. I will sometimes wear it alone when just staying around the house or under a powder when going out. Either way it's a great CC cream with 30 SPF so you know your skin is protected. This is my favorite concealer for under-eyes ever. It’s highly pigmented and very creamy. It makes my eyes look brighter and even helps reduce fine lines. I don't find it to be the best for spot coverage though. I love these cream blushes. The colors are great and buildable. They also feel great on the skin and have a moisture blend that keeps your skin hydrated. The colors come from plant pigments which is very cool and safer than a lot of blushes out there. I have very sensitive eyes but this mascara doesn’t bother my eyes at all. It’s clump-free and buildable. It is a bit of a wet formal but if that is your preference it will be perfect. It's a very natural looking mascara, great for everyday wear. This finishing powder is perfect for setting your makeup. I find it helps keep my makeup looking nice longer and leaves a nice finish. As a bonus a little goes a long way so it will last you awhile.

I love cream blush too! Do you know what Juice Beauty’s policy is for testing for heavy metals in their color products? They are often higher in natural makeup since they often contaminate raw materials.

I’m totally guilty of not taking some of my makeup off at night, too – so much easier to just clean my skin with a wipe and not have to redo my mascara from scratch the next morning! But I would feel a lot less guilty about that choice if I used more natural makeup like this – thank you for your recommendations! It’s so hard to know what’s good quality without recommendations – so many natural products have fewer chemicals and are ethically produced, but don’t actually get the job done!
