It’s fun to make fancy coffee drinks at home and this Mint Chocolate Chip Frappe is a delicious place to start. I love making these at home because it’s cheaper and I have control over the ingredients.
Coffee can get expensive when you buy it out all of the time. I can get into the habit of buying coffee out and then I look at how much I’m spending and stop.
It’s very easy to make coffee drinks at home and a lot cheaper. I also like that there is less waste and I have control over the ingredients that are used. Plus I can make fun flavors I can’t find at my local coffee shop.
A few years ago I went on a kick of making frappes. They are so much fun for the summer when you want a latte but it’s too hot. It had been awhile since I made one and I decided I need to make one again.
I have several other recipes we love so I will be sharing those very soon as I get back into making these delicious treats. Let’s just say I love to get creative with these frappes!
The one I wanted to make today is a Mint Chocolate Chip Frappe. It’s great for this time of the year with St. Patrick’s Day coming soon. The ingredients are far better than most of the special mint drinks offered right now. And you will save a bit of money.
I like to use Trader Joe’s organic, Fair Trade breakfast blend coffee. It’s really good and affordable for an organic, Fair Trade coffee.
You can leave the coffee out of this and just add more milk. It would still be delicious and less rich than a milkshake. Around here we have been needing an afternoon coffee so I left it in. I also say the whipped cream is optional but is it really?
Like I said one of my favorite reasons to make coffee drinks at home is to reduce waste. One bonus way to reduce waste when making this delicious Mint Chocolate Chip Frappe is by using a glass straw. I’ve used them for years and love them. They are easy to clean and beautiful.
Mint Chocolate Chip Frappe
- 1 cup cold strong coffee
- 1 cup milk
- 4 cups ice
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract
- 1/3 cup chocolate chips
- whipped cream optional
Mix all of the ingredients in a blender until smooth.
Top with whipped cream if desired.
This recipe makes about 4 servings. It’s best served right away. You can save it and drink it later, the ice will melt so it will be a bit watery but still delicious.
