“There is a new traffic source for bloggers and it’s called Mix. Learn how to use Mix to increase traffic to your blog and be one of the firsts on the platform.
As a blogger, you are always looking for new ways to bring new traffic to your blog and build your audience. Many of these new sources come and go but some end up being great and it’s good to get in early.
I always like to join new social media and content sharing sites as soon as I hear about them, just in case they are the next best thing.
When I first hear about Mix I jumped on board. I actually really enjoy this platform so I’ve been hoping it would last. I’ve been a member for about a year now and even with minimal effort I’m seeing traffic increases and have gained followers.
Mix was started by StumbleUpon which I had used for years and occasionally got large traffic boosts from it. Shortly after joining Mix they announced they were going to close StumbleUpon and merge it with Mix. I was glad I had gotten on board before the switch.
I have found Mix much easier to use than StumbleUpon and I like it a lot more. It reminds me of Pinterest in the early days but with more articles and not as heavy with DIY and recipes, though those are on there as well.
No matter what blog niche you are in you can use Mix and getting in while it’s still pretty new is always a great place to be.
How to Use Mix as a Blogger
1. Set up a good profile.
The first thing you want to do is sign up for Mix and then set up your profile. Add a little bit about you and your blog link. And don’t forget to use a recoginizable photo.
2. Don’t just add your content.
This is one way that Mix is not Pinterest. Pinterest is all about you posting as much of your own content as possible, of course without spamming.
Mix is more about community so it’s suggested you keep to a ratio of 20% your own content and 80% from other sources. I love to reach out to my blog friends for their content when creating a collection. It’s a fun way to collaborate.
3. Build collections around your quality content.
I like to spread out my content by starting new collections when I have a couple of posts on a topic and including other valuable posts. This is when I will reach out to some bloggers in that niche and get their top posts. This helps me build quality collections.
4. Use catchy names and descriptions.
Think more like old Pinterest, come up with eye-catching collection names. Keep your keywords in there but be creative. This is something I’m going back and updating with my account because I was more in the Pinterest mindset at first.
One I’m just changed is Organized Christmas to Have an Organized Christmas. It’s a small change but it sounds better. I also added a description which is something I’m also going back to do.
For this collection, I used, “Skip the stress this year and have an organized Christmas.” It’s descriptive and keeps my keywords.
5. Change your cover photos.
You can also change the cover photos of your collections so pick the best, most eye-catching photo. This is more likely to get people to check out your collection.
6. Use the Mix toolbar.
The Mix toolbar makes adding content very easy. You just click it when you are on a page you want to add and you can add all the info you need to right there.
7. Get the Mix app.
I just finally downloaded the Mix app and now I’m starting to use it more. It’s fun browsing a bit when I have a few extra minutes to find more content to add to my collections.
8. Follow your fellow bloggers and friends.
Building relationships is the best part of blogging and Mix is a great place to do that. Tell your friends about your profile, they don’t have to be bloggers, this is a great site for everyone that likes looking for great content.
Share your profile link, which will look like this- https://mix.com/retrohousewife on your other social media accounts. Be sure to try and use the same profile name you use other places.
9. Cross promote on other social media.
This is something I’m starting to do more often to get my readers on board with Mix and to have more great content to share.
When you create a new collection let your readers know on Twitter, Facebook, or even Instagram. It’s a great way to share multiple articles with your readers at once.
You can also find content on Mix to share on your other social media channels. I love to get more content from there to share because it’s often fresher than getting content that is already on the other platforms.
10. Follow topics as well as people.
On Mix you can follow topics, boards and people. All are great! Following topics is a great way to find new content that you can share on other platforms or add to your collections.
I’d love if you’d follow me- https://mix.com/retrohousewife and be sure to look for other blogs you love and your friends.
