Need a quick and delicious dinner? Homemade pizza pockets are easy to make and you can customize them to fit your own tastes.
I loved Hot Pockets growing up. I especially liked the pepperoni pizza ones. I didn’t get them often because my mom knew the ingredients weren’t the best.
She knew about nitrates before it was trendy and you could find uncured pepperoni. I was an adult before I understood why we always had orange juice with things like hot dogs. Turns out it was because she knew that vitamin C helps inhibits nitrosamine, the harmful part of nitrates, formation.
Now we can get uncured meats at basically any grocery store. They still may not be the healthiest of foods but it makes some favorites like pepperoni pizza a bit better for us.
And one of the great things about being able to get uncured pepperoni is I can make my own homemade pizza pockets! That paired with some natural crescent roll dough is a delicious treat that is a bit better for us than the conventional version.
I came up with this idea when I made some Crescent Chicken Bundles. I was thinking about what else I could put in the crescent roll dough and of course, pepperoni pizza came to mind.
My husband was hooked after the first time I made them. It’s now one of his favorite treats. He loves for me to make it on the weekend for a nice weekend treat.
We like pepperoni and cheese in ours but you could easily make these with any pizza toppings you enjoy. We dip ours in homemade pizza sauce but you could also put the pizza sauce in the pocket. I even have cute little glass dishes to put our sauce in.
It’s really up to you. I just plan on making them often because they are sure to be a family favorite.
