Most of my friends think of me a little miss Suzy Homemaker. While I do try to be a good homemaker and even blog about it, I am not perfect. The other day I had all of these plans, I was going to grill for dinner. I had the menu planned but forgot an important step, checking for all of the ingredients.

Time rolled around for me to make some homemade buns, a process that requires some time, look in the fridge and I don’t have eggs! By the time I’ll be able to get some it will be too late to start the buns. I then also realized I didn’t have an onion, which was also a main ingredient. I’d already thawed the meat, I didn’t have a plan b so off to the store I went.

I got to the store and found some buns and I tell myself eating store bought buns with questionable ingredients once won’t kill us. At least they didn’t have high fructose corn syrup. That store was out of onions so on to another store. I checked my dirty dozen app and it tells me onions are on the clean fifteen so I don’t feel guilty buying that non-organic onion. Finally I head home to make what should have been a simple dinner.

So yes, even Suzy Homemaker has her off days and has to buy store-bought buns. I was happy that at least the meat was high quality and up to my normal standards. One win for me for the day!

These grilled cheddar sausages are really easy and delicious, especially when topped with caramelized onions!

It has been very hot around here, really basically all of the US has been quite hot. I had planned this meal to help us keep from heating up the kitchen by grilling. Grilling is something we have been doing a lot more lately.

I’ve been looking for more things to grill because you can only eat hamburgers and hot dogs so many times. When I heard that Applegate had new dinner sausages I figured that would be perfect. They sent me some to try out and the one I was the most excited about is the chicken and cheddar sausage.

These grilled cheddar sausages are really easy and delicious, especially when topped with caramelized onions!

Since they are fully cooked it’s a really quick and easy dinner. I have many other ideas for how I want to use them, including in some homemade mac and cheese, but this time I grilled them. I highly recommend trying these out. They are very mild so great even for kids.

I can never resist a hot dog that is grilled. It just has that extra flavor that you can’t get from the stove or microwave!
