I have a tiny kitchen with very little storage space. This is not good when you shop once a month and cook largely from scratch, I need a lot of space for food storage! The other day I decided to use a hall closet that is right by the kitchen as a pantry, thought about it for awhile but finally got around to it. I don’t have a before picture because I didn’t think about it until it was cleaned out but it was a pretty normal closet with a clothing rod.
First I measured the space and figured out what I needed. I decided to use Elfa from The Container Store. I looked at some of the cheaper options but they seemed to all be coated in vinyl, which is not good for use around food.
After all of the pieces I needed got here, my husband installed the top bar for me and then the rest was SUPER easy. Just put together the shelves and hung them from the bar. The whole thing seems very strong and it’s highly customizable if my needs change or for when/if we sell the house.
Now I have a ton of food storage space and the space I was using in the kitchen can now hold things like my rather large Pyrex collection. This last shopping trip was my first time to put away groceries with a new pantry and it was so nice to have so much space.
If you have done a DIY pantry or redone one, I’d love to see them. Just post in the comments below.

I wish I had room to do something like this in my house. We do not even have a closet on the first floor in our house!! I am jealous!
