Enjoy your family or friends this Christmas with a Christmas Light Scavenger Hunt. There is also a couples edition that makes for a fun Christmas date night.

One of my favorite memories as a child was driving around looking at Christmas lights. Our local park always has a lot of lights so it was on the list, as well as some neighborhoods that go all out.

As an adult, I still love to look at the lights. My husband and I normally go out a few times but my favorite is on Christmas Eve when we drive around the park and a few other places. We have done this since we started dating, we happened to start dating on Christmas Eve so it’s a special day for us.

A couple of years ago, we had a date night with another couple and we did a Christmas light scavenger hunt. It made looking at lights even more fun. I thought it would be fun to make my own. I created one that is good for couples and one for families.

This is a fun date night to do with several other couples. Bring some hot chocolate in insulated bottles or pick some up at the local coffee shop. Extend the date night by meeting up at a local restaurant for dinner after. The winners could get a free dessert as a prize.

If you want to enjoy the scavenger hunt as a family divide up into two teams and see who can find all of the items the fastest. You can get a small prize for the winners to make it even more fun.

The ideas for this are endless, friends, couples and families can all enjoy this. It’s a fun new way to experience your town’s Christmas light displays. You could even take a day trip to check out the lights in a nearby town.

Christmas Light Scavenger Hunt Rules:

  • Print off a checklist for each couple/team. To make it easier put each sheet on clipboards.
  • Decide on a meeting place and a time limit.
  • Take photos on your phone for each of the items.
  • Be the first to complete the list and meet back at the meeting place.
  • Have a fun prize for the winners.
  • Obey all traffic laws and be safe!

You can also add your own items to the list if you want to play even longer. It’s always fun to have free or cheap Christmas activities you can enjoy. We all need to spend more time doing fun things with our loved ones during the holidays.

This is even an activity that is great for social distancing or with friends that don’t live close by. You can meet outside from a distance or even over FaceTime or Zoom. Since you will be riding in different cars anyway it makes it a great way to spend time with people outside of your household safely.
