Some canned food just isn’t as good as fresh but in many cases, I will argue that canned green beans are better. Fresh is great in some recipes but for others, a can of french cut green beans is my go-to.

Canned green beans are also so much cheaper than fresh, especially when they are out of season. They are a great staple to keep in your pantry and they don’t have to be boring.

My favorite canned green bean recipe for a quick side dish is to cook up some onions and garlic, saute the green beans with them and add some cooked bacon. Even better if you top it with a sprinkling of freshly grated parmesan.

Now for holidays, and sometimes just because, green bean casserole is a favorite around here. I make mine with homemade cream sauce, bacon, and lots of cheddar cheese, yum!

I could use some more canned green bean recipes so I asked some blog friends for suggestions and wanted to share the recipes with you as well, but first, let’s talk about canning green beans.

How to Can Green Beans

I haven’t gotten into canning yet. Canning is a vintage homemaking skill I want to learn but it also scares me a bit, botulism is no joke. My friend Victoria though is a canning master and has great information on canning green beans.

I wish she lived closer so she could teach me in person but the next best thing is her ebooks on canning, with her books she can teach all of us to safely can all the things, including green beans.

Even without our own homemade canned green beans, we can still make some delicious canned green bean recipes, here are some to try soon!

And be sure to pick up my recipe book printables so you can add these recipes to it and create a family cookbook of your own.
