You’d think we would get used to all the increased costs each holiday season but I know I’m always finding myself surprised by something.

I like saving money all year but around the holidays and right after I go into even more of a frugal mode.

December is a great time to stock up on some items that do usually go on sale. Shopping these sales can save you money throughout the year.

Just be careful. You do want to make sure you are buying things you actually need and can use in time if it’s perishable. It’s not a good deal if you won’t use it.

Here are some of the things that tend to go on sale in December and are great to buy and stock up on. Don’t forget to check for coupons!

Baking Supplies

You will often find great deals and coupons for baking supplies around the holidays. Think ahead, red and white candy can be great for Valentine’s Day baking. Flour, sugar, etc… are great all year and you can even freeze things like flour to help it last longer.

Holiday Food

Traditional holiday food like green beans, gravy mixes, rolls, stock, and many other great foods go on sale around December. Try and work these things into your upcoming meal plans. Also, think about what you can freeze for later.

Christmas Decor & Wrapping Supplies

At the end of the month, you will find great deals on Christmas decor and all kinds of wrapping supplies. If you have the budget and space stock up for next year.

Also, pay attention to wrapping supplies you can use all year. You can often find bags and wrapping paper that aren’t Christmas themed and can be used all year. Things like tape, ribbon, and tissue paper are great to stock up on now as well.

Toys and Gifts

Look at your calendar for upcoming birthdays, if you have some mid-December is a great time to look for gift sets and toys.

Small Appliances

Small appliances are popular gifts so they often go on sale. If you need to replace one or have been eyeing something new now is a great time.

Instant Pots and air fryers are huge this year and there will be great deals on them around the holidays.

Tools

Tools are common gifts and also go on sale during December. Think if there is something you have that needs replaced or if you need any tools to help you winterize your home.

Clothing

Winter clothing, nice outfits, and pajamas are some of the clothing items you often find on sale in December.

If you have any weddings or other formal occasions coming up this can be a great time to buy your clothing.

And stock up on gloves, hats, scarves and other winter essentials. Don’t forget pajamas. I love to find cute pajama sets around the holiday season.

Personal Care Items

Look for gift sets of personal care items. It is a great way to stock up and save money. Perfume and cologne are also often available in gift sets for a discounted price.
