Looking for kids’ lunch boxes that are non-toxic and reduce waste? There are so many out there, these are a few of the great options out there.
It’s almost time for the kids to head off back to school. Around here kids go back in August, so now’s the time to get all of your supplies together.
There are so many different supplies you need to buy it can be overwhelming. And then you start to think about trying to find things that are safe and eco-friendly and you can get overwhelmed fast.
Lunch boxes for example can contain harmful things like PVC, lead, BPA, and phthalates. And disposable paper bags cost a lot of money over time and are wasteful. Thankfully there are some great waste-free, safe options out there.
The time it can take to hunt down those items though is often a problem. That’s why I’ve got the school lunch box covered with these safe lunch box options.
While all of these are on Amazon you can also find great handmade kids lunch boxes on Etsy if you want to avoid Amazon. I love shopping on Etsy for unique items.
These kids lunch boxes are fun and something your kids will want to use but also better for them and the environment. This cute bag is PVC, BPA, and phthalate-free and comes in a lot of very cute designs. These cute bags are made with cotton canvas and an insulated liner to keep things cool or warm. This bento box is made of silicone and when you are done with it you can collapse it almost flat. BPA-free, food-grade PP plastic and wheat fiber are super healthy and built to last. Stainless steel bento boxes are a great option because they are very safe, easy to clean, and durable. This insulated bag is PVC, BPA, phthalate, and lead-free. It comes is several cute styles.Non-Toxic Kids Lunch Boxes

We are in the market for lunch bags. My top concern (after free from toxic chemicals) is how easy it is to clean. I like the bags because many are easily wiped out and even machine washable!
Lisa Sharp says
Yeah being able to clean them easily is important!

That Milkdot one sure is cute – I’ve never seen those! I just bought a new Wildkin lunch bag for my youngest son. Land’s End makes good ones too!
Lisa Sharp says
Isn’t it? Those sound like great options as well!

I love these! I especially like number 2 and number 4. My son is going to kindergarten for the first time, so I hope he will let me get him one of these instead of using his Dad’s super old one from when he was a kid. But, I guess it’s still being green because we’re recycling it? 😉
Lisa Sharp says
It is green for sure, depending on the age lead could be a concern. You can check with a 3M Lead Check Swab. 🙂
Green Bean says
Great list. It is that time of year again! I’ll have to investigate these.
Lisa Sharp says
Hope you find one that works for you. 🙂

Ok those are SO cute! I’m not a child nor do I have any… but I actually take packed lunches all the time if I’m out and about and these are way better than tupperware 😉
Lisa Sharp says
I don’t have kids either but I have a meeting once a month where we all bring lunch. Plus there are always times you need to bring lunch with you. It’s nice to have a cute bag to carry it all in. 🙂

Ahh, I love these! They’re so adorable, and I love that they’re eco-friendly! 😀 There are actually eco-friendly sandwich bags available on etsy too that would pair super-well with these! :]
Lisa Sharp says
I’ve seen some, they are great!

Totally fun choices!!! I really like bags like for when Tony and I go on road trips. We have a very small car in terms of its available storage space and full cooler isn’t possible if we have luggage, so an insulated lunch bag, with ice, is a must for long drives.
Have a terrific first week of August!

Lisa Sharp says
Thanks! Small insulated bags are so much easier for road trips, I agree! Have a great week as well!

Hi Lisa, I’m grateful for your advice that an eco-friendly lunch box will not only save money but will also last for years. I want to try the cute bag as well as the bento box. My sister will also buy one for her kid, I am sure of that. Thanks and more power!

Hi. I’m trying to decide between the wildkin lunch bag and planet box lunch bags for my 1st and 2nd graders. Is planet box lunch bags safe?
Thanks,
Michelle
Lisa Sharp says
Yes they should be fine.
Mommy Nature says
Wildkin is not living up to its claim of being PVC-free and this phthalate-free. I bought a few lunch bags that had a thicker exterior (mermaid skin and holographic) and it says inside the label that it is made with PVC. That seems to fit since the exterior material is different from the typical wipeable polyester I al used to seeing. However I have reached out to the company about this lapse and got no response. You may want to reconsider your endorsement of their products since they are no longer phthalate free.
Lisa Sharp says
That’s not good, I will look into this. Thanks for letting me know.
