It’s time for another vintage meal plan. These come from vintage homemaking magazines and are always a fun look at the past and can also bring us some inspiration for our modern meal plans.

A great way to use these meal planning ideas is by using my retro meal planner so you can stay organized and make meal planning a lot easier.

If you want to use these long side a more modern meal plan you need to check out 10 Weeks of Money-Saving Menus. They are done-for-you meal plans along with grocery lists. They make meal planning super easy.

Now onto some vintage meal inspiration with this 1960s meal plan!

1960s Easy Autumn Meal Plan

These meal plans were considered to be “no-fuss meals” and quick meals that would please the whole family. You’ll notice each meal also had a dessert. This is something you will see across mid-century meal plans.

Often the desserts were fruit based and the portions were much smaller than what we tend to eat now. I love the moderation approach to eating so this is something that is appealing to me about vintage meal plans.

I have done my best to find recipes for each dish. And I’m always remaking vintage recipes so if there are any missing that you are interested let me know and I will do my best to recreate it.

Company Dinner in 30 Minutes

This meal plan was designed for those times you can company coming but no time to prepare a big meal.

  • Shrimp Orleans (The recipe linked is a more modern version. The 1960s recipe used canned soup.)
  • Hot Buttered Rice
  • Lettuce- Green Pepper Salad
  • Crisp Bread Sticks
  • Pears with Quick Raspberry Sauce

Italian Dinner

As with most vintage recipes trying to be foreign its questionable how Italian these are but it’s still a nice meal plan.

  • Oven-Fried Herb Chicken
  • Whipped Potatoes
  • Zucchini Parmesan
  • Zesty Ripe Olives
  • Celery Hearts
  • Buttered Vienna Slices
  • Easy Tortoni

Harvest Dinner

This meal was one focused on eating seasonal vegetables. The Garden Supper recipe was meatballs with vegetables like onions, corn, green peppers, and tomatoes.

  • Garden Supper
  • Hot Garlic Bread
  • Mocha Dessert

Old-Fashioned Oven Meal

This meal plan was considered vintage for the 1960s. It’s fun to see loving vintage recipes isn’t new.

  • Chilled Fruit Cocktail
  • Beef Oven Stew
  • Sweet-Pickle Strips
  • Hard Rolls with Butter
  • Grandma’s Apple-Nut Dessert
  • Hot Coffee

Broiler Dinner

This feels like an early version of sheet pan dinners. Treasure burgers are just normal burgers stuffed with pepper jack processed cheese, topped with chopped olives, and with bacon wrapped around the edges.

  • Treasure-Burgers
  • Miniature Potatoes (seems like these are basically tater tots)
  • Special Green Beans (just canned green beans with some butter)
  • Celery and Carrot Sticks
  • Toasted Hamburger Buns
  • Peach Melba with Vanilla Wafers
  • Hot Coffee or Cocoa

If you have tried any of these dishes and have a favorite recipe be sure to share it in the comments or email me and share. I love to hear about vintage recipes, especially family favorites.
