Staying home for date night doesn’t have to be boring. Skip the dinner and movie and solve a murder together instead, with Hunt A Killer. This post is sponsored by Hunt A Killer, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Date nights are a good way to make sure you keep connecting with your spouse but it’s not always possible to go do something. Date nights at home however often turn into a movie and takeout. That’s fine once in a while but gets boring pretty fast.

My husband and I are always looking for fun things to do together, other than just watching Netflix or going out. It’s even better if it’s something that keeps us off of our phones.

Sometimes we will play board games but so many are better with bigger groups. We wanted something different and that worked well with just the two of us.

That’s when we heard about Hunt A Killer. It sounded like something we’d both really enjoy so we decided to give it a try. Spoiler alert, it’s a lot of fun!

Hunt A Killer Box

What is Hunt A Killer?

Hunt A Killer is a murder mystery subscription box. Each month you get a new box with new evidence. You can get just one box or sign up for the whole session which is 6 boxes, they are addictive so you will likely want the whole season. Plus if you get a 6 or 12-month subscription you get a free cocktail book and Moscow mule cups.

When you get your box you will find it packed with things to help you solve part of the murder. You get things like archival documents and private correspondence, newspaper clippings, personal effects and so much more. There are also more things you can access online.

How to Use Your Box for a Fun Date Night

I enjoy making a whole night out of using our box. Make a nice dinner or get take out and eat together, if you are more than a box in you can even chat about your past boxes and get yourselves ready to solve the next part of the case.

You should get a murder board from their shop or create your own. We just used a whiteboard app. I can see how that would be nice and fun though if you have a place to put one.

We actually were having so much fun and wanted to make sure we were very thorough that we took more than one night for each box. I really like that you get so much out of each box. It’s not a simple puzzle that will take very little time to solve, they are very in-depth.

These boxes would also be fun to do with a bigger group for a double date night. We may do that in the future with one of our couple friends. You could also make it a contest and each couple would try to solve the murder on their own and the first one to do it wins a prize.

There are a lot of fun ways to use these boxes. They are also fun for families with older kids. I would have loved this as a teenager.

Why Hunt A Killer is Great for Date Night

Solving the murder will take good communication, and patience, and also helps you learn to work together better. These are skills every marriage can use.

It’s a really fun way to practice these skills and not even feel like you are working on your marriage. The benefits are bigger than simply just some quality time together.

They are also very affordable starting at $25 per month. It would be hard to have any date nights out for only $25.

You can also get Hunt A Killer sets on Amazon if you don’t want a subscription.

How to Get Your Own Hunt A Killer Box

  1. Head over to Hunt A Killer’s website.
  2. Fill out some brief questions.
  3. Choose your subscription option. The options are monthly, season pass (6-months), or double season (12-months).
  4. Get your box and get started!

Or head over to Amazon and order a box.

My Final Thoughts

This is one of my favorite subscription boxes ever. It has also been a really fun date night. I am excited about the nights we plan to work on our boxes.

The best part is my husband also loves them. Often it seems like one of us is more excited for a date night than the other because we are different people with different interests but this is one activity we both have really enjoyed.

I can see us doing seasons often. I love that they are so engaging and also affordable. It really helps break up the routine of going out to eat or to the movies.

I highly recommend checking it out and using it for a fun date at home. Be sure to leave any questions or your thoughts if you have tried it out in the comments below.
