Bath bombs are one of my favorite things to use in my baths. They can get expensive though and many have ingredients that I don’t like. Even the natural ones often contain scents I’m sensitive to.
I’ve wanted to make my own for a long time but never got around to it. Surely it must be hard to make them, right? Wrong! They are very easy to make. It’s so much fun to play around with what you put in yours.

You can dye them but I prefer to just leave them as is. The dyes can be a pain to clean off of your tub and serve no function, they are just pretty.
I like my baths to be very relaxing so lavender is one of my favorite bath scents, so that’s what I choose to use. You can easily mix up what scent you use, just be sure it’s one that is safe for your skin.
Lavender Bath Bombs
Ingredients
- 1 cup baking soda
- 1/2 cup citric acid
- 1/2 cup epsom salts
- 2 teaspoons lavender essential oil
- 3 teaspoons apricot oil
- spray bottle with water
- silicone mold
Directions
- Mix all of your dry ingredients in a bowl.
- Mix the lavender essential oil and apricot oil in a pourable container.
- Slowly add the oils to the dry ingredients and mix.
- Slowly spray a little water in the dry ingredients, mixing well after each spray. Water activates the citric acid and makes it fizz, adding the water too quickly will make it fizz.
- Once the mixture feels a bit like damp sand and can hold it’s shape, press into your mold and let dry overnight. Mine were quite big and took a bit longer than just overnight to dry.
- Store in an air tight container.
I find these bath bombs to leave my bath smelling amazing and to add just enough oil to my bath to leave my skin soft but not enough to make the bath slippery.
These bath bombs make fun gifts. Simply package them up in a cute way and give alone or as part of a spa themed gift basket. You can even get different shape molds for different occasions. The heart shaped ones like I made are perfect for Valentine’s Day.

I’ve never made bath bombs before but I may give these ago as I do love my baths.

I’ll have to try this, I haven’t ever made them, but occasionally I’ll buy myself some for a special treat.

These are so fun! I would totally make these as a gift, or for myself! I love bath bombs, but totally agree they can get pricey depending on where you get them.
Summer @ Coffee With Summer says
Ohhhh, I want to make these for myself and to give as gifts! They seem so simple to make. Loved this DIY!
Skye says

OMG I would NEVER EVER want to get out of the bath because of these!

I love bath bombs and never made them myself 🙂 It’s seems to be pretty simple though, so maybe it’s time for me to try. I will probably use rose scent, as lavender has a tendency of giving me headaches. My mom would love it though – she’s a big fan of lavender 😀

This is the perfect DIY Valentine’s day gift. Every year I give my best gal friends a DIY gift so I’m glad I found your article. Could you also add dye to this, because I would love to make these pink or red.

Very keen to try this as I recently bought some essential oils! I’ve never seen apricot oil though? Do you know whether olive oil would work if I use that instead?
Lisa Sharp says
Yes olive oil can work. I just don’t like the smell ha.

Never knew you could make your own bath bombs. Such a good idea.

I’ve made my own too and they are SO easy , I don’t think I’ll ever buy them again! I stored mine in a pretty mason jar to keep the moisture out and they look so lovely. Great tutorial!

I love bath bombs, I definitely would love making them and having as many as I wanted all the time! Love this, I’ll have to try it!
Sara says
Can you tell me the purpose for the citric acid?
Lisa Sharp says
That’s what makes it fizz. 🙂
Elva says
I’ve got some coconut oil, will that work as well? I Love how the coconut oil makes my skin feel!
Lisa Sharp says
You will need to melt it so it’s liquid but it should work.
Phil says
I suppose these will work just as well even if I don’t have a rubber heart-shaped mould, eh? 😛
Lisa Sharp says
Yes you could use another silicone mold or scoop it out on to a wax paper lined cookie sheet.
Krito says
How many do you used when you shower?
Lisa Sharp says
These are for baths but you could try them in a shower. I’d just put one on the shower floor.
