The holidays can be very waste but throwing an eco-friendly holiday party doesn’t have to be hard. These tips can help you throw a great party and reduce your stress.
‘Tis the season for parties! The holidays are such a fun time to spend with friends and family. This is definitely my favorite time of the year for parties. They are so festive and full of cheer.
The only problem with parties, other than finding enough time for all of them, is the waste. There are can be so much waste involved in throwing a party and the holidays already increase the amount of waste we create by so much.
Often waste also means wasted money. And with the holidays already costing so much we don’t want to be just throwing money away.
There are some great ways to have an eco-friendly holiday party and many will save you money. And don’t worry it will still be a fun party! Maybe even more fun.
6Â Ways to Have an Eco-Friendly Holiday Party
Use what you have.
Before you buy anything, look around your home to see what you can use. Get creative! Make some DIY decorations or repurpose what you already have.
Keep it simple.
The party is really about the people, not the decor or food. While Pinterest can be great for inspiration you don’t have to do everything you find on there.
Avoid food packaging.
When planning your menu go for foods that don’t involve a lot of packaging. Things like having fewer types of chips so you can buy bigger bags can really help. Also, try to buy a reasonable amount of food, that will cut down on packaging waste as well.
Send people home with leftovers.
Don’t let food go to waste, ask your guests if they’d like to take things home. Be sure to save packaging from the food, if possible, so you can send the items home in its own packaging.
Set up easy recycling.
Make sure it’s just as easy for your guests to recycle as it is to throw things away. Include a note on the recycling can for what can be recycled if needed.
Avoid disposables.
Depending on your size party, decide which reusable items you can use. You can ask friends if you can borrow dishes and serving ware if you don’t have enough. You can also pick up a cheap set of real dishes, cheap real dishes still look nicer than disposables. And in the long run, you can save money! If you don’t host a ton of parties, consider going in on a set with a friend and you can share them.
Another fun item to invest in for parties is glass straws. They are perfect for parties and everyday use. There are even small ones that work great for cocktail stirrers, as well as for coffee and hot chocolate.
With these tips, you are sure to have a fun and eco-friendly holiday party. And if you can’t do all of it, don’t worry every little bit helps.
