What I’m Into (September 2013 Edition)
|October 4, 2013||Filled under Favorites|
September was pretty warm but slowly throughout the month it started to cool off and feel more like fall. I love fall, other than the ragweed which is making me sneeze a lot. I have been decorating the house for fall and I’m ready for it to cool off more so I can wear my fall clothing.
Early in the month some of my friends had a dance party at a local Italian restaurant, that’s kind of a long story but it’s a small town and we know the owners and staff. A lot of people showed up and it went really well. My cousin that lives in Texas came up for it and we had a blast. It’s always fun to see her, she used to live in California so as kid we didn’t see each other much but now that she is in texas we get to see each other more. Plus my brother was one of the DJs and I’m always so proud of him and his sets. Stole a photo from my mom of my brother.
The next weekend my mom, a friend and I went to an amish auction in a small amish town nearby. Yes, dance party one weekend, amish auction the next, I have a wide range of interests. We all went together last year and once again had a great time. The auction is to raise money for the amish school and has become a huge event drawing in over 10,000 people.
We got there pretty early, at least for us non-morning people, and the weather was great. It had still been pretty hot most days but we had clouds and a nice breeze, which kept the temperatures down. The auction has a lot of great food and booths selling both amish and non-amish goods. There isn’t much you can’t find at the auction. We of course had to lust after the biggest part of the auction, the handmade amish quilts. We joked on the way there that they need to make coasters or placemats because we could maybe afford those. I stole a photo from my mom showing some of the quilts. I did pick up a few handmade holiday decorations and had a wonderful cinnamon role. It was a great little trip again, we got to see everything before it started to get very warm or late. You can read more about our trip on my mom’s blog, Tea With Dee.
My mom and I had our monthly shopping trip again this month. We left earlier enough this time to even stop by the farmer’s market in the town we were shopping in. You can read more about that and see what I got on my September Grocery and Oklahoma Food Coop Haul post.
Reading- Blogs & Books
I’m still reading the Pretty Little Liar’s series very slowly. I did find a couple of new blogs that I added to my BlogLovin account. Beauty by Britanie, which is a great green beauty blog. She shares a lot of great tips as well as natural DIY kinds of things. The other blog is House of Smiths, which is a DIY and home decor type of blog. I’m pretty sure I found this blog through Pinterest.
Watching- Movies & TV
I don’t think I watch any movies in September but I did finish up House of Cards. I also got caught up on Bomb Girls, a Canadian show about the women that built bombs during WWII. Also started Army Wives, which I didn’t think I would like but I do.
My guilty pleasure 19 Kids and Counting is back on so I’m of course watching that. And watched the last season of Breaking Bad, I’m sad it’s over but it’s one of those shows that couldn’t go on forever without getting boring, they ended it well short of boring!
My husband took me twice to this really nice steak place in Oklahoma City called Ranch Steakhouse. I don’t like steak but they have a roasted chicken that is amazing. Both times I’ve gotten it with their potatoes au gratin and it’s to die for. The last time I also got dessert, their creme brulee, which was also quite good. The service is excellent, which is very important as I have a life threatening food allergy but they handled it really well. I’m already looking forward to going again, my husband has promised another trip.
DIY and Crafting
I finally got a sewing machine this month! I have only sewn two things so far but I’m loving it. I made two little reusable gift bags for Christmas gifts. They were an easy project to start with and I need more reusable gift bags for Christmas.
I also crocheted a little pumpkin garland that I have hanging on my office/craft room mirror. Was hoping to do even more but it’s a start.
I’ve been doing the #Fit4Fall challenge hosted by PlanetShoes.com. It has been going okay but not great. My asthma and allergies are not helping motivate me but I’m still doing better than normal. I really enjoy Fit Sugar workouts they have on YouTube. You can find a lot of the ones I have been doing on my Pinterest Fitness board. I’ve also been trying to do a lot more yoga. I really want to regain flexibility and I have started to see improvements there.
On the Blog
This month I talked about fall makeup trends and shared some eco-friendly products that will help you get those looks. I shared my favorite eco-friendly pet care items and also hosted an eco-friendly pet care blog carnival. And I reviewed the Bestowed subscription box.
