What I’m Into (August 2013 Edition)
|September 1, 2013||Filled under Favorites|
August was yet another busy month. The month started out with my dog Patience’s “birthday.” She was rescued so we aren’t sure when her birthday is or exactly how old she is. We use the date she came home as her birthday and the vet and I believe she was about 2 years old at that time. This would make her about 8 years old now. She got lots of pets and extra treats for her birthday. I tried to bake her a homemade treat but she turned her nose up at them, ha. So she got some freeze dried cheese instead.
My husband was away on a business trip for a week in August. I took that time to try and get caught up around the house, some how I’m already behind again, how does that happen?! My mom and I also decided to do our grocery shopping while he was out of town and since we really didn’t have any reason to rush we went to both Norman and Oklahoma City.
In Norman, we had a nice lunch with some friends and did some shopping at one of our favorite locally owned stores and in Oklahoma City we went to Whole Foods and we got done pretty early, funny when we don’t rush we get done early! Since we had time to kill before we wanted to have dinner, we went to the shopping center where the restaurant was and found a cute little store to look at and then we had dinner at a great little hamburger place. My mom has already gone back this weekend because it was so good.
This past week we also celebrated my mom’s birthday. We went out to dinner with my family and some of her friends. It was nice and she had a good time, which is of course the most important thing.
So overall it’s been a good, but HOT, month. I’m really looking forward to fall, it was 104 with 115 heat index yesterday and is 100 today.
Reading- Blogs & Books
I started back to reading the Pretty Little Liars series. So much of my time online is spent reading very serious things so it’s nice to have a fictional story to read.
I haven’t found any new blogs this month. Feel free to share your favorites in the comments below, for me to check out.
Watching- Movies & TV
I watched one movie that I can think of and that was Butter. It was enjoyable and I’d recommend watching it if you enjoy those types of movies.
On TV I’ve been still watching my guilty pleasure, Sister Wives. And Pretty Little Liars, of course. But I have also really gotten into House of Cards on Netflix. It took me a couple of episodes but now I’m hooked. If you like political dramas you want to check it out. I’m also very excited that Breaking Bad is back on. This season is very intense!
I finally put Spotify on my computer and have been listening to a lot of random stuff on there. A lot of music from my childhood, 90′s rock. And I’m always listening to jazz. Haven’t found anyone new and haven’t bought any albums this month. I need to find more time for music.
My favorite meal this month has to be the hamburger, fries, and chocolate shake I had at Tucker’s Onion Burgers in Oklahoma City. They use locally raised, ethical meat, and fresh ingredients, including the most incredible locally made fresh buns. It was a very tasty meal that my mom and I both enjoyed a lot. Neither of us could finish all of our food and we shared an order of fries. If you are in the Oklahoma City area be sure to check out Tucker’s.
The other thing I discovered this month was champagne grapes. I love grapes and when I saw these I had to get them. They look a lot like the grapes my great aunt had growing at her house one summer when I was there. They are amazing. I swear they taste like candy, by far the sweetest grapes I’ve had. I bought a pound at Whole Foods when my mom and I went shopping and asked my husband to pick me up another pound when he was at Whole Foods this weekend.
DIY and Crafting
I said last month I really needed to start Christmas crafting but guess what, August was again a fail. I did make a few cards for people but that’s about it. Will someone make me get started on this stuff?!
I rarely buy new shoes but somehow this month I ended up with two new pairs. I have been looking for some nice boots with heels that weren’t leather or PVC. This has been challenging but I finally found some at PlanetShoes.com and they only had one pair left in my size and they were on sale so I HAD to have them. They are far too hot to wear now but I’m sure I will get a lot of use out of them this fall and winter.
The other pair I got were some adorable heels. I haven’t bought any heels in a very long time. I have one pair of black heels from high school and a pair of white ones from my wedding. Otherwise I have some wedges and several pairs of nice flats. I fell in love with these from PlanetShoes.com. I love the retro feel and they are leather and PVC free. I haven’t had a chance to wear them yet because I hurt my ankle but it’s doing better now so soon I will have to try them out.
On the Blog
This month on the blog I was thrilled to have some of my favorite bloggers join me in sharing our dreams in honor of the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington.
I also shared my must have essential oils. I love essential oils but they can be pricey so I wanted to share the ones I find the most useful. And if you enjoy hauls be sure to check out my grocery haul and co-op haul.
I’d love to hear what your favorites have been lately, if you do a post like this share below or just share what you have been loving in the comments below. I’m also linking up with What I’m Into at HopefulLeigh. Check out what the other bloggers have been enjoying and if you want to share your own favorites, link up as well.
