I try to eat a fairly healthy diet, my downfall is a major sweet tooth but I do eat almost all organic food and limit how much packaged food I eat. One of the first things I did when switching my family to a healthier diet was cut out trans fats and other unhealthy fats. I never used fake butter, as I was raised on the real stuff and have known since I was a kid that trans fats are bad. But as a teen I didn’t always avoid them very well in packaged food.
I have also stopped using vegetable oil, which sounds healthy but is really bad for you. I only cook with healthier oils and fats now. What we normally have around the house is olive oil, butter, sometimes bacon fat, and my favorite, coconut oil. Coconut oil comes with all kinds of health benefits and can be used for everything. I use it for skin care, cooking, baking, and oral care. I always have some refined (for higher temp cooking) and unrefined coconut oil on hand.
A great place to get coconut oil is Tropical Traditions. They have great prices and they produce a great organic coconut oil. You can even get it by the gallon, which is not the case in most grocery stores.
