DIY Baby Care Products
| July 9, 2011 | Posted by Lisa Sharp under Green Parenting |
Babies have very sensitive skin and require extra care, yet most baby products contain harmful ingredients. One way to avoid the harmful ingredients is to make your own products. Here are few easy recipes to get you started.
Smoothing Baby Bath Milk
1 cup powdered milk
¼ cup corn starch
¼ cup finely ground oats
2 drops lavender essential oils
Mix ingredients together and put in a shaker bottle or contain with a lid and a small scoop. To use, sprinkle or scoop a small amount in warm bath water.
Baby Oil
1 cup Grapeseed oil
4 drops lavender essential oils
Mix together and store in a dark colored bottle. Use as a bath oil or a massage oil.
Baby Wipe Solution
This is great for cloth wipes
1 cup water
1/4 cup Aloe Vera Juice (this is different than aloe vera gel!)
1 tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar
1 tablespoon Calendula Oil
1 teaspoon grated, unscented soap (I recommend Dr. Bronners)
2 drops Lavender Oil
2 drops Tea Tree Oil (There has been some question about using tea tree oil with boys so I would skip this part with boys)
Mix well and pour over cloth wipes. This solution has anti-fungal properties making it great for helping prevent yeast diaper rashes.
Baby Powder
½ cup corn starch
½ cup Arrowroot powder
1 tablespoon dried ground chamomile
1 tablespoon dried ground lavender
¼ cup finely ground oats
Blend well and put in a shaker bottle, use like you would other baby powder.
While these recipes all use natural and safe ingredients always be sure to do a skin patch test when using a new product on your baby. If you have any recipes to share please share them in the comments below.
