McDonald’s Take on Oatmeal
| March 2, 2011 | Filled under Uncategorized |
You have likely heard McDonald’s is now offering oatmeal. One may think, wow such a healthy food at a fast food restaurant. Hard to believe right? Well you shouldn’t believe it. This oatmeal has 21 ingredients, loads of sugar and calories. It fits right in on McDonald’s menu. The problem is people are going to believe it’s healthy. Just watch their ad.
Sure it’s got oats in it and even fruit, but what are all the other ingredients? Also did you notice when taking about ingredients maple is left out? Well that’s because there is no real maple. Who knew oatmeal could be so unhealthy.

My girlfriend LOVES it, but happily, eating it at Mc Donald's has encouraged her to buy actual oatmeal and fruit and make her own at home, so that's something, right?
Is nothing sacred? But, seriously, I'm sure it's better than the egg McMuffin.
It is great that so many people are discovering how delicious and easy oatmeal is now that it is a "fast food" item. I bring mine to work every day in my Laptop Lunches lunch jar. It's convenient and healthy and is something warm and sweet that I can enjoy right at my desk!
Green Girl: I guess that's something. Hopefully she can see how much cheaper and better for her it is at home and skips the McDonald's.
Betsy: Maybe not, almost the same calories, maybe less fat?
Summer: Yes, I hope people learn how they can make it cheaper and better at home.
SO I took a moment and compared the numbers. The oatmeal only has 10 less calories than the egg McMuffin, but the other numbers are MUCH better, total calories from fat, cholesterol, etc.. So if you are stuck out, can’t cook, vacation, etc.. the oatmeal is a healthier choice on the menu.
Although, I make my own “instant” oatmeal at home. The oatmeal that cooks in 1 minutes IS the same oatmeal in the “instant packages”.
Yes I’m sure it’s better than other things on the menu but will McDonald’s it’s not saying much. For me it’s the ingredients that worry me more than even the fact that it’s as much sugar as a Snickers bar and all the calories. Oatmeal should have just a couple of ingredients.
