Why I Don’t Eat Soy

Soy seems to be on the rise. It’s in EVERYTHING. So many are calling for people to eat it in place of meat. Great source of protein, right? Well that is debatable.
High amounts of soy have been linked to breast. uterine, and thyroid cancer. The soy we get in the US is very different from that in Asia. What they eat is fermented.
Large amounts of soy have been also linked to auto immune diseases and hypothyroidism. And you may think you aren’t eating much because you don’t like things like soy milk, tofu, etc but check your labels. Soy is in almost all packaged food.
“The soy question is definitely confusing and controversial. Here is the concern about soy: The estrogen-like substances (isoflavones) in soy may stimulate the estrogen receptors of breast cancer cells and make them grow. It’s this potential danger that makes many doctors warn their breast cancer patients against eating soy products.”- Breastcancer.org
They do point out some believe it can prevent breast cancer but this is largely because of Asia and like I said they eat a different form of soy than we do. BreastCancer.org also points out-
“Of course, it isn’t that simple, since these same women are doing other things that may reduce their risk: not smoking, minimal or no alcohol use, regular exercise, likelihood of being close to their ideal body weight, minimal consumption of animal fats from limited use of meats and dairy products over a lifetime.”
Soy is one of those things we don’t know a lot about. At least the form we are now eating.
Soy is also almost always GMO. Even some organic ends up testing as having GMO cells. So if you eat a lot of soy you may want to do some research before eating much more. As for me I want my soy in my insulation, clothes, and other forms in which I don’t eat.

I stopped eating soy a long time ago for those same reasons and I'm glad the word about it is getting out. Great post!
