The Waste Of Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day can be a really nice holiday but all to often it’s wasteful. Sure it’s a hallmark holiday but you can make it about love and make it something special or you can give in and just buy a lot of plastic crap with no thought at all.

I’m very lucky, my husband put a lot of thought in to my gifts which included a heart box made from elephant poop (yes elephant poop!), two roses made from elephant poop, organic cookies, a trip to a near buy town, and he took me to the zoo. We had a great time and their was very little waste!

Here are some facts about Valentine’s Day and the waste involved.
“About 1 billion Valentine’s Day cards are exchanged each year.”
“Over 36 million heart-shaped boxes of chocolate are sold each year.”
“35,000 kg of CO2 is emitted by growing 12,00 rose stems in Holland and 55 million roses are given globally on Valentine’s Day.”
So how waste-free was your Valentine’s Day??
