Being Green On A Budget…. A Preview..
| June 27, 2008 | Posted by Lisa Sharp under Uncategorized |

I’m going to write a blog, soon I hope, about being on a budget and still living green but for today I have just two little mini things. I know that my Staples has Method on sale. I got myself an Aroma Ring for my house for only $2.95 (with the very high sales tax in this town and all!)!! I had one in the bedroom but wanted one in our living room. I let my MIL know and she got one for herself as well. You may want to check to see if your Staples is running this sale. A few other things were on sale as well.
While talking about Staples I would like to say I have to give it to them for doing some HUGE things to become more eco-friendly. They do a lot of recycling for free or cheap, and even pay you for old ink cartridges. They also have lots of eco-products and reusable bags for very cheap! I have to say it’s quickly become a favorite store.
Moving on… For today only you can print off a coupon from Walgreens for $5 off when you spend $20 or more. I know a lot of us tree huggers hate Wal-Mart so we shop at places like Walgreens and local grocery stores but also this is helpful for the people who read my blog that have not come to the dark side yet as well. By the way I call eco-friendly living the dark side because lots of us will sit in the almost dark (or totally dark) to save some power. I’m sitting in my bedroom with the light off and just natural light as I write this.

I thought I would show you some of my shopping bags.
I use these the most because I keep one in my purse at all times. They are Chico bags and you can get them on www.reusablebags.com. They can hold way more than you would think and up to 20 lbs. They fold into themselves as you can see with the green one. These are around $4 each.

Here is another favorite of mine, they are bigger than the Chico bags but still fold in to themselves. They are from Method and you can order them online at methodhome.com. I like to use them for my cold items because they are thicker than other bags.

This one is big but I don’t like the shape as well as the others. It is really cheap, about $1. You can get it at Wal-Mart. It’s the one I keep all my others in since I don’t use it as much.

This is more like a tote than a bag. I use it mostly for clothes shopping and trips to the library. It’s made from organic cotton and I got it at Wal-Mart for around $15, I think.

My mom just got me this one, I haven’t had a chance to use it but I think it will be great for clothes shopping. It’s more the size and style of bags you get when clothes shopping. It was a little under $3 at Maurices. As you can see in the second picture it folds up as well.

I love my shopping bags and use them all the time. Some people may have no idea what to do when I use them but it’s worth it. And they all hold more than normal plastic bags so you have to carry less bags. Plus you look cute carrying them.
Oh and if you don’t know what BYOB is it’s Bring Your Own Bag. Remember some stores even give you some off your total for using your own bags!

Burt’s Bees Very Volumizing Pomegranate & Soy Shampoo
I LOVE this shampoo. I have tried Jason’s shampoo and Abba and both are nice but this works better. And it smells wonderful! The best smelling shampoo I have used and no asthma issues with it. It makes my hair soft and it cleans really well. As far as the volumizing part it works as well as any other I have used but who knows how much that really is. On the green front the bottle is recyclable, it’s #2 plastics. And it’s made with 80% post-consumer recycled material. Also no sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate, paraben or phthalate. Burt’s Bees is part of the Natural Products Association which is trying to make a certification for natural products, since right now any product can say it’s natural. So if you are looking for a good shampoo, eco-friendly shampoo, or just natural try this. I got mine at Walgreens but you can also find it on Burt’s Bees website if you can’t find it, Whole Foods and health food stores will have it most likely as well.
Biokleen Soy Toilet Scrub
This stuff is VERY affordable and works very well. It’s non-toxic, 99% VOC free, gentle on skin, and smells great. I can say it is gentle on skin because it’s gotten on mine and no problems and I have very sensitive skin. I haven’t used Seventh Gen. or Method’s toilet cleaners so I can’t say if it works better but it works as well as the chemical stuff and smells so much better and doesn’t matter if it gets on your skin. As far as the company goes they test there products to be safe for people with asthma and chemical sensitives, they never test on animals, they use recyclable packaging and overall are working to make as small of an eco footprint as they can. If you are vegan they use no animal products so you are safe to use this and there other products. I order from www.planetnatural.com because we get bug sprays and such from them and so got this at the same time. I will talk about the site later.
Biokleen Bac-Out Stain & Odor Eliminator
I got this to use on clothes. I have only used it a few times but I believe it works better than Spray & Wash. It smells wonderful. It has many other uses but I have not tried them yet. I talk about this company above. Again these products are great prices!
More to come soon! Be sure to check out my other reviews- click here.

Going Green
| June 17, 2008 | Posted by Lisa Sharp under Uncategorized |
I have decided that this blogs focus will be on green living. Since my life as a housewife is focused on green living it seems like a good idea. You can’t really talk about my day as a housewife without talking about green living. Also while I’m pretty eco now I’m still working to become more eco-friendly so you can join me in my journey.
I live in a small town in Oklahoma making it a bit harder at times to be green seeing as it’s not the most common idea around here yet. So for all of you that think it’s to hard for whatever reason I want to so you how easy it can be. I will post food recipes, cleaning recipes, product reviews, and of course tips.
If you know any good sites for me to join to get my blog more views let me know.
